We are excited to announce the official opening of the Kim Lab in January 2025! Led by Dr. B.J. (Byungji) Kim, the lab (a.k.a. the Kimmunity) will be based at UT Austin, focusing on groundbreaking research in RNA-based therapeutics, immunoengineering, and nanotechnology for cancer treatment, vaccine development, and drug delivery.
About Dr. B.J. Kim
Dr. Kim is an expert in the field of RNA therapeutics and immunoengineering. With a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from UC San Diego and postdoctoral research at MIT, she has made significant contributions to the development of lipid nanoparticle delivery systems and RNA-based therapies. Her research bridges materials science, immunology, and bioengineering to address critical challenges in drug delivery and immunotherapy. At the Kim Lab, she aims to push the boundaries of personalized medicine, particularly in cancer and infectious diseases.
Research Focus
The Kim Lab will focus on three key areas of research:
High-Throughput RNA Delivery Screening: Developing advanced platforms for rapidly screening RNA delivery systems, optimizing lipid nanoparticles for targeted and efficient delivery.
Mechanistic Studies of RNA Therapeutics: Investigating the biological interactions that affect RNA delivery and therapeutic success, particularly in overcoming barriers in cancer treatment.
Engineering Next-Generation RNA Therapeutics: Designing multifunctional RNA constructs that integrate gene silencing and protein expression, creating powerful treatments for complex diseases like cancer.
